Q: How much do you charge?
A: There are many variables that determine my fee for a performance. (band size, season, availability, location, duration of performance, time of day, etc.). Since all of the above are taken into consideration before giving a quote, and each event is unique, my fee is best discussed via an information-gathering phone call.Q: Do you use pre-recorded backing tracks or sequences?
A: I do not use any pre-recorded backing tracks or sequences. All musicians who perform with me are consummate seasoned professionals, and all music is performed live. However, during the band's breaks, we do provide pre-recorded background music for your enjoyment.Q: Do you work only as a soloist, or are you able to work as a duo, trio, etc.?
A: My minimum configuration is a duo which would consist of a vocalist (myself) and a keyboardist. The band can be configured, as required, up to an 8-piece big band. Most events that have dancing would require at least a quartet or quintet to keep people on the dance floor, and to also provide a stunning visual experience.Q: Are you able to learn material that is not already on your song list ?
A: Special song requests are always accommodated. However, the band's required configuration for your event often dictates what can be realistically performed. If we are unfamiliar with the song, you would need to send us a recording (CD or MP3) of the song at least 90 days before the performance. Please limit songs outside our repertoire to two. Additional songs can be learned for an additional fee.Q: Do you travel outside of the Charlotte, North Carolina area to perform?
A: I generally limit travel to a 300-mile radius. However, exceptions can be discussed. For travel outside of a 100-mile radius of the Charlotte-metro area, additional travel expenses and overnight accommodations must be negotiated.Q: What is considered a typical performance time (duration)?
A: While each event is different, my performances generally cover 2 to 4 hours, as required. However, a longer performance can be negotiated.Q: Do you perform background music?
A: To dismiss a common misconception, as a vocalist, I can easily suit your event with a very smooth, subdued and non-intrusive musical ambience.Q: What types of music do you perform?
A: Although the focus of my band is jazz from the 1920's to present, I am extremely versatile and can perform a variety of genres including danceable jazz, blues, beach, R&B and soft rock, as well as some ethnic favorites. Please see my song list page.Q: Do you have any special requirements I should be aware of?
A: Yes, but nothing out of the ordinary. The following terms should be adhered to:1) To power my equipment, I use standard household 110 V power, and will require two outlets in the area of the performance on a 20 amp circuit.
2) If I am to perform outdoors, I must have a durable covering, such as a tent, roof, large awning, etc. This applies even if no rain is forecasted. The reason for such a covering is to protect my band and my equipment from direct sunlight, dew, possible rain, etc. I must perform on a hard dry surface. For safety reasons, I can not perform on grass, gravel, sand or bare earth. If the temperature falls below 55 degrees F. or exceeds 90 degrees F, or there are winds above 15 M.P.H., I am unable to perform outdoors.
3) A supply of bottled water and the offering of a small meal for the band are customary. The band performs best when it is nourished and hydrated.
4) There should be an area where the band can comfortably change attire prior and following the performance.
5) Depending on the size of the band, a minimum space of 10' x 10' will be required for the performance.
Q: What happens if my event is scheduled for outdoors and has to be cancelled due to rain?
A: My engagements are not contingent upon weather. When planning an outdoor event, reasonable contingency plans should be considered for an alternate location in case of rain. If hazardous weather is forecasted for the area, I reserve the right to decline performance outside. Additionally, if there is audible thunder or lightning present (with or without the presence of rain), I will not perform outdoors because of safety reasons. If inclement weather begins during a performance, I reserve the right to cease the performance. Any terms of payment will apply, regardless of weather conditions.Q: Why don't you list where you are performing on your website?
A: About 75% of my work is at private venues. If you would like to know when and where I am performing publicly, please email me with GIG LIST in the subject line, and I'll happily add you to my contact list.Q: How can I find out more about Celine Berman & Jazztrack?
